American Dream

Is the American dream dying, or is it already dead? Have we  said to our kids or grandkids, “I can remember the good old days”?
Every downturn of the economy has made life sometimes unbearable – lost jobs, income, self worth. Our children look up to us for security, a roof over their heads and love. Sometimes the day-to-day grind is just too much.
The group “Feeding America” reported that 15 percent of Hoosiers, over 1 million people including over 300,000 children, are not getting enough to eat. If, and when, the parents find employment, their pay will be less than before, but will be above the 185 percent of the federal poverty level, therefore no food stamps.
What happens next is that the caregiver can’t afford good nutritional food like fresh fruits and vegetables so they buy snacks, cold cuts, canned goods full of sugar or salt, making their children obese and on the verge of being a diabetic.
If our children are our future, are we destroying their American dream for them? Please read www.feedingamerica.org/mapthegap
