All About The Kids

The year was 1977 and I signed my first teaching contract with Warsaw Community Schools.
I was going to teach and coach at McKinley Elementary School, fifth grade. Just down the road from McKinley, Lincoln Elementary was 18 years old and was going through some much-needed renovation. After one year at McKinley, our school corporation asked me to move down to Lincoln to teach and coach. I was on the Lincoln staff for eight years when I left to begin my administrative career at Claypool Elementary.
I was blessed over the years as a principal to work in facilities that provided safety, security and the proper educational learning environment. Claypool and Harrison Elementary were buildings that provided these much-needed elements for our students each day. Safety, security and the proper learning environment in our schools are the values we cannot overlook. As a school board member now, I must share that Lincoln, Washington and Edgewood are lacking all three elements. We have to address this for our children and we must address them as soon as we can.
On Tuesday, May 5, we will all have the opportunity to go to the polls again. This year, when you arrive at the polls, you are going to see an opportunity to make a difference for kids in our school corporation. We need your help that day. As a school board, we have been working very hard with Dr. David Hoffert and his team to make sure the needs of our children are being met in all of our buildings. We have reached a point though that these three buildings are in dire need of repair and replacement.
Our kids need a new Lincoln Elementary. The last major renovation at Lincoln took place in 1977, as noted above. Our kids need Washington and Edgewood renovated. We can’t do this without your support. Please support our children and vote yes for the referendum on May 5 so we can begin the process of building for our future to provide safety, security and the proper learning environment for all of our students.
