ROCHESTER – Alice M. Mattix, 87, died at 2:30 a.m. March 31, 2013, in the residence of her daughter, Shari Norris, in Carmel.
She was born March 2, 1926, in Warsaw, to Albert and Vesta Coffin Perry. On Sept. 15, 1946, she married Loren Mattix, who died Nov. 25, 2004.
She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1944.
She oversaw the household and worked outside the home as guidance secretary at Rochester High School. She also managed the office of Grace United Methodist Church for a number of years. In 1977 she graduated from Manchester College with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education specializing in home economics and business.
She worked at Akron Middle School for 11 years as  head of the home economics department. She earned a master’s degree in secondary education from I.U., Kokomo. She retired in 1988.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed Bible study classes, singing in the choir, Sunday school and being a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two daughters, Shari Norris, Carmel, and Barbara (and spouse James) Michels, Evansville; a sister, Margaret Brenner, Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Rochester, with Pastor Buck Padilla officiating. Burial will be in Rochester’s IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, is in charge of arrangements.
