She was born March 3, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to Chester and Angeline Stacneck Gut. On Nov. 3, 1951, she married A.A “Gus” Luyben, who preceded her in death in 2006.
She moved to Syracuse from Fort Wayne in 1969.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 1950, and her master’s degree from Indiana University in 1962. She taught home economics in the Northwest Fort Wayne Schools for 38 years. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, as well as the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca (and spouse Darrell) Campbell, Syracuse; two grandchildren, Brandon (and spouse Abby) Moe, Syracuse, and Brett (and Jaclyn Conley) Campbell, Milford; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Molly Moe; a sister, Denise Sabo; and three brothers: Chester, David and Ronald Gut.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eastlund Funeral Home.
