VEVAY – Aldean M. Pavy Wiley, 91, Mt. Sterling, died Jan. 6, 2015, at Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville.
She was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Fairview, to Leroy and Metah Irene Seavers Pavy. On Nov. 30, 1946, after returning to Switzerland County, she married Leland R. Wiley, who died Aug. 8, 1995.
Following the death of her young mother when Aldean was 2 years old, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, James and Maud Detraz Seavers. She graduated from Vevay High School in 1942, and moved to Anderson to work at Delco Remey.
After returning to Switzerland County, she married. This happy union was blessed with four children: Cookie, Butch, Linda and Alvin. She worked side by side with Leland for 49 years, building Wiley Farms, raising tobacco, corn, soy beans and milking a large herd of Holstein cows morning and night. Her favorite task was bottle-feeding baby calves.
She was an excellent cook and made many meals for hired hands. This union lasted until Leland's death. She continued managing until her death.
Over the years, she was active as a 4-H leader, 4-H Fair board member, 50-year member of the Center Square Home Economics Club and Vevay High School Band Boosters among other things. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church for over 60 years, and served as a Sunday school teacher as well as president of the Ladies Aid Auxiliary for many years.
She was honored in 2001 as the Switzerland County 4-H  Fair Mrs. Switzerland County. Later interests included reading, watching Tiger Woods play golf and keeping up with I.U. and Purdue basketball. Above all, she loved and supported her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren, and was always supportive and proud of their many activities and endeavors.
In the early years, she enjoyed watching Leland and the boys pull tractors. She was an incredible lady and friend as well as a mother and grandmother and was respected by all who knew her.
Surviving are her four children: Carolyn “Cookie” (and spouse Art) Gakstatter, Winona Lake; Gerald “Butch” (and spouse Jane) Wiley, Columbus; Linda Wiley, East Enterprise; Alvin Wiley, Vevay; nine grandchildren: Belinda (and spouse Bo) Rodgers and Eddie Wiley, all of Vevay; Jennifer (and spouse Malachy) Flanagan, Eagle River, Alaska; Angie (and spouse Kyle) Tom and Andee (and spouse Ryan) Tilden, all of Warsaw; Lori Wiley, Anchorage, Alaska; Haley Wiley, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Sam Wiley, Jeffersonville; and Carrie Wiley; Hermosa Beach, Calif.; 14 great-grandchildren: Stacia (and Steve Rech) Curlin, Harrison, Ohio; Greg Curlin, Kailey and Liam Wiley, all of Vevay; Bryanna Curlin, Batesville; Keegan, Kameron and Kamden Tom and Noa and Brody Tilden, all of Warsaw; Aidan, Finnley, Molly and Ryan Flanagan, all of Eagle River, Alaska; two great-great-grandchildren, Shaelyn and Shelby Rech, both of Harrison, Ohio; her step-grandchild: Allison (and spouse Jon) Martin, Noblesville; three step-great-grandchildren: Devon Harper, Olivia and Nick Garver, all of Noblesville; a half brother, Richard (and spouse Jean) Pavy, Lawrenceburg; and a half sister, Mary Lee (and spouse Ed) Reuter, Englewood, Ohio. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St., Vevay. Burial is in Vevay Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
