Alan W. Grindle, 79, went to be with his Lord at 2 a.m. May 8, 2009, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Warsaw, to Russell and Rachel Wilson Grindle. On Sept. 16, 1950, in Mentone, he married Mildred C. Whetstone, who survives in Warsaw.

He was a truck driver for 20 years, and worked in maintenance at Zimmer for 21 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Harrison Center Church, Etna Green; Warsaw American Legion Post 49; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. He entered the U.S. Air Force Nov. 21, 1951, in Indianapolis; served in the Korean War with the 508th Field Maintenance Squadron; and was honorably discharged Oct. 2, 1953, at Turner Air Force Base, Albany, Ga. He was a lifetime Warsaw resident and an avid fisherman.

Also surviving are a daughter, Diane (and spouse Bill) Burr, Warsaw; a son, Kim (and spouse Linda) Grindle, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Sgt. Michael (and spouse Stacey) Lucas, Fort Knox, Ky.; Matthew (and companion Jerika Akers) Lucas, Warsaw; Cassandra (and companion Nate Lewis) Burr, Syracuse; Rob Grindle and Lisa (and spouse Blaine) Goon, all of Warsaw; six great-grandchildren: Jacob, Makia, Aaron, Chase, Karter, and Emily; and a brother, Bud (and spouse Phyllis) Grindle, Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith B. Grindle, who died May 5, 2002.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Bill Stevens, Harrison Center Church, Etna Green, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 49 and American Legion Post 286.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
