Akron Arts League Has Several Upcoming Events

AKRON - The Akron Area Arts League announced several upcoming events.

Learn how to craft stained glass in an all-day workshop Nov. 6.

Diane Graham, Macy, will teach the basics of stained glass and will supply all the needed materials. This is an opportunity to try out this art form without investing in expensive tools and materials. Cost for the day is $65.

The class starts at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. Participants will make stained glass Christmas ornaments. Bring a lunch to the Akron Community Center, east of Akron, north on Ind. 14. The class is not limited to, but must be six for the class to make the projects.

Send a check for $35 along with your name, address and phone number to: Akron Area Arts League, P.O. Box 702, Akron, IN. Please preregister before Oct. 30. The balance of the cost, $30, may be paid at the workshop. Questions may be directed to Karen Drone, cell 574-505-1450 or Diane at 574-382-5291.

The Akron Area Arts League will present Marilyn Kruger the Art Award at their annual meeting tonight.

Each year the Arts League chooses a local person to honor for their contribution in promoting the arts. Mike Kinney, Rochester Sentinel photographer, and Ken Gilliland, musician, formerly of Denver, are past recipients.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Akron Community Center. The public is invited to this free event. There will be paintings by Marilyn, music by the Akron United Methodist Church Choir and refreshments.

The Arts League is celebrating its third year of successful programming.

The Honeycutt brothers, Dan, Bill and Darrell, are the featured group at this Friday's Friday Jam.

These brothers have been making music together all their lives. They sing mostly gospel in three-part harmony. The public is invited to bring acoustic instruments and sit-in with the group or just come and enjoy the sounds of bluegrass, country and gospel music.

Bring your favorite snack to share. Coffee, iced tea and juice are furnished. It is free but a donations will be accepted. Questions? Contact Karen at 574-505-1450.[[In-content Ad]]The Photography Group of the Akron Area Arts League will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Rochester City Hall, 320 Main St. Photographers, film or digital, of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend. Participants are asked to share their photos that were taken at local festivals.

This is an informal group of people who love to talk photography and cameras. Come join in. For more information, call Don at 574-598-2875.
