AKRON - After winning 11 consecutive games, the offense Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball coach Bill Patrick calls the wheel went flat in the first half Friday against John Glenn.

By Vikings, who last lost Dec. 22 in the Plymouth Holiday Tournament, shot 5 of 14 from the field in the first half, trailing 24-14.-

But when the Viking offense was deflated, junior Cody New was its pump.

The 6-foot-1 guard scored 20 points in the third and fourth quarters, as Valley made a game of it before falling 65-58 in double overtime.

Valley's 11-game streak began with a win over Glenn in the Plymouth Tournament.

New, who only scored three points in the first half, finished the game with 28 points, including six three-pointers. He also pulled down eight rebounds and made five steals.

Senior Brandon Eaton was the only other Valley player in double figures. The 6'3" forward finished the game with 15 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field, leaving him five points shy of the 1,000-point barrier for his career. All four of his field goals came from beyond the arc. The Vikings got eight points and four rebounds off the bench from freshman Trey Eaton.

Said Patrick of his team's first half performance: "I didn't think we were ready to play in the first half. We shot so well in the last game, and hit our free throws so well. Tonight we missed some big free throws.

For the game, the Vikings were 11 of 19 at the charity stripe.

Valley made its surge in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 35-30 with 1:42 remaining when Brandon Eaton connected on a three-pointer. Valley cut the Falcons' lead to 35-32 when New corralled a rebound and scored two as the quarter ended.

After their 5-of-14 performance from the field in the first half, the Vikings shot 7 of 13 from the field in the third quarter.

Glenn quickly put the advantage out to 39-32 at the beginning of the final frame, but a trey by New with with 5:59 remaining cut the lead to two, 39-37.

A basket by Chris Adkins with 1:41 remaining in regulation gave Glenn a 47-42 led.

Adkins led the Falcons in the scoring column with 24 points on 10-20 shooting from the field. Matt Jerrell added 14 points and eight rebounds for Glenn, who improves to 14-6 with the seven-point win. Matt Smith added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Trey Eaton hit two crucial charity tosses with 1:24 left in regulation making the count 47-44. Adkins had the opportunity to put the game out of reach with a charity toss at the 58 second mark but missed.

New knotted the game at 47 with his fifth three-pointer of the game with 45 seconds on the fourth-quarter clock.

Valley senior Noah Silveus caused a Falcon turnover with 25 seconds remaining in regulation. After calling a time out, Valley held for a final shot, a three-pointer by New that missed at the buzzer.

"He hit a big one to tie it up," said Patrick of New.

As far as the shot at the buzzer to win: "We were looking for him or Brandon," said Patrick. "It was a great shot it just didn't go in."

New hit yet another three-pointer to tie the game at 54 with seven seconds remaining in the first overtime, as the teams scored seven points apiece in the first extra session.

The Vikings took a 58-56 lead with 2:40 left in the second overtime on a field goal from senior Craig Kuhn, but the Falcons outscored Valley 9-0 the rest of the way.

Of Glenn's 18 points scored in the two overtime sessions, 14 of them were scored at the charity stripe. Brandon and Trey Eaton, and Anthony Domenico all fouled out as the Vikings committed 24 total fouls. Glenn was whistled for 14 fouls.

"We had two or three defensive break downs," said Patrick. "We fouled a couple of times that I didn't think were necessary. We gave up some big offensive rebounds."

The Falcons outrebounded Valley 34-27.

The loss drops the Vikings to 15-4 overall and stops an 11-game winning streak.

"I think the kids kind of forgot how we won those 11 games," said Patrick. "We won those 11 games by playing hard and doing basic things. They started listening to people tell us how good we are and basically forgot."

The Vikings will travel to South Bend Washington tonight for a 6:15 p.m. rescheduled game.
