AKRON - An 8-year-old Akron boy is in fair condition after being attacked Monday evening by a neighbor's dog.
Madison Shawn Westfall of West CR 1275S, Akron, suffered several large open wounds to his upper back and several puncture wounds to his lower back, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report. Westfall was initially taken to Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, for treatment and later transferred to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
According to police, Westfall and another boy were wrestling in the yard at the Daniel D. Hoffer residence on West CR 1275S about 7 p.m. when they apparently rolled within reach of Hoffer's chained Rottweiler and the dog reportedly jumped on Westfall.
Another boy ran into the Hoffer residence to alert the residents of the problem with the dog and Hoffer told police he had to pry the dog's jaws open to get him to release the boy.
The dog is expected to be destroyed this morning at the owner's request. [[In-content Ad]]
