Adults Dig Halloween, Too

Watch out, kids!
Your parents stealing trick-or-treat goodies from you is the least of your worries - they're about to take over Halloween.
According to information provided by Wilton Enterprises of Woodridge, Ill., Halloween is the second-most popular occasion for adult-hosted parties, trailing only behind New Year's Eve.
"Perhaps Baby Boomers have embraced Halloween because they were the first generation to really go trick or treating," said Zella Junkin, director of consumer affairs for Wilton Industries Inc. "They seem to love the opportunity to recapture a portion of their childhood and even share that with their own children."
With that in mind, Kraft¨ Foods has announced that its Halloween Party Hot Line is open for the season. By dialing 888-KRAFT-75 (888-572-3875), adult ghosts and goblins can learn the latest tricks to making creative, inexpensive costumes. For example, check out the section of "Famous People" costumes, including Vincent Van Gogh, Noah and Harry Houdini. Also included on the line are great Halloween food ideas from the Kraft Creative Kitchens that will turn any party into a memorable monster bash.
The hotline even has a section devoted to those party procrastinators who need to create a costume at the last minute. A quick search around the house will turn up all the items needed to dress like the Statue of Liberty, Adam and Eve, or the "night sky."
Local establishments are also focusing on adults this Halloween, with parties and other activities planned for the holiday.
At Brewski's Pub in the Ramada Inn, more than $300 worth of prizes will be given away during a costume contest. Judging is at 11 p.m. Friday.
The Downtown is presenting "Duke Tumatoe" Halloween night, with tickets available for $10 each.
The Blue Lion will have a masquerade dinner tonight with menu items prepared by guest chef Brad VanNess. Among the selections will be turkey mushroom pat in a puffed pastry, pork tenderloin with a dijon mustard sauce, corn pudding, elderberry sorbet and French pumpkin custard in a chocolate ganache shell.
Cost for dinner is $25 per person, plus tax and gratuity, and reservations are preferred since availability is limited. Inquiries should be directed to 594-2583.
On Friday at The Blue Lion, there will be a Pirate Party and costume contest featuring pirate's keg root beer and Nelson's blood punch from 8 to 11 p.m.
The entertainment for the evening will be J.D. and Patrick Woods, who will lead the guests in pirate song singalongs.
Costumes are optional for both events.
Also for Halloween, several local clubs and fraternal organizations are sponsoring parties for their members. [[In-content Ad]]
