Michael Todd Hullinger, 44, of 702 E. Lake View Road, Syracuse, was charged Oct. 17 with causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle and failure to stop after an injury accident, both Level 6 felonies, and failure to remain at the scene of the injury accident, a Level 3 felony.
The charges follow a Sept. 13 accident with a pedestrian at 2:20 a.m. in the 700 block of South Huntington Street, Syracuse, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office. The pedestrian, Anna Johansson Svensson, suffered incapacitating head injuries, says the Syracuse Police Department crash report.
Police located Hullinger after the accident with the help of an eyewitness report from a Casey’s Gas Station clerk and security camera footage from the gas station. Police also matched a turn signal lens found at the scene with damage to Hullinger’s vehicle, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit also states that Hullinger appeared to officers to be intoxicated, with red eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance. A blood draw at Kosciusko Community Hospital determined Hullinger had a blood-alcohol content of 0.12.
Hullinger was arrested that night and initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident, and booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $300 bond. His initial court hearing is set for Thursday at 1 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
