Warsaw Police Department Detective Division Lieutenant Steven R. Adang is retiring after 30 years of service with the Warsaw Police Department effective March 31.
Adang and his wife, Jackie, have planned to move closer to their son and his family after he completed his 30 years in January.
In March, Adang accepted a position with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department in Florida as a civilian polygraph examiner.
“The position is an ideal fit for me, and will allow my wife and I to be closer to our son and his family, which includes our granddaughter,” Adang said. “Because of Lee County’s immediate polygraph needs, I agreed to start my new position on April 1, 2013.”
Adang began his career with WPD on Jan. 1, 1983, as a patrol officer.  For the last 23 years, he has been involved in investigations, which includes conducting polygraph examinations for the department and other area agencies.
Adang said he has enjoyed his 30 year career with the Warsaw Police Department and has made many friendships and associations in the area.
He also stated he has gained a vast knowledge from WPD, other area agencies, prosecuting attorney, and the Kosciusko County court system.
Adang said he will miss the good people involved in trying to make things better for those victimized by crimes.
Scott Whitaker, WPD chief, said Adang will be missed for his knowledge and investigative skills.
“Lieutenant Adang has been a tremendous asset and mentor for our department,” Adang said. “He has also been involved in the majority of our serious criminal investigations dating back to the early 1990s.”
Whitaker said he is expected to present two new hire requests to Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety at its April 19 meeting.
The requests will be to fill Adang’s vacancy and a vacancy left by Johnson Rice, former WPD patrolman, who relocated to Carmel Police Department earlier this year.[[In-content Ad]]
