WINONA LAKE – Kent Adams received the most votes for the Winona Lake clerk-treasurer seat in Tuesday’s primary.
Adams received 54 percent of the votes, or 496 votes.
Adams defeated Retha Hicks, who has served as the town’s clerk-treasurer since 1993.
“I want to thank the voters of Winona Lake for their support and confidence in me,” Adams said.
He said he looks forward to the fall general election, working cooperatively and in support of the town council in serving all the citizens to the best of his abilities.
Adams served 16 years as a member of the Indiana General Assembly, four years as Kosciusko County treasurer, and 16 years as chief financial officer in area school corporations. This is his fourth year on the Warsaw School Board.
“I’ve been involved in public service for 33 years, and on one hand I’ve never lost an election, but it takes the voters to get involved and I really appreciate and thank them for their votes,” Adams said.
He said he will try to do the best job he can.
Adams said he looks forward to working with the elected council as a team.
Philip Hood received the most votes for the Winona Lake Ward 1 seat. Joy Lohse previously held the seat, but did not seek re-election.
“Joy served the town well, and it is an honor and privilege that the residents elected me and I will work to represent them,” Hood said.
John Boal received the most votes for Winona Lake Ward 2.
“It’s a privilege that the voters had faith in the message I was trying to communicate, and that is a vision for the future of Winona Lake,” Boal said.
He said with him running for office, his two teenagers had the opportunity to learn about the electoral process.
He said he appreciates the support from his family and constituents.
Boal served in 2003 and 2004 on the council. He said he is looking forward to again serving to move Winona Lake economically into the future, and partnering with Warsaw more effectively.
Bruce Shaffner received the most votes for Winona Lake Ward 3.
Shaffner said he is excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve on the council.
“I am looking forward to continuing to move the town forward,” Shaffner said.
“I think the people who were elected will bring a breath of fresh air and new perspective on issues that will be healthy for Winona.”
Winn received the most votes for Winona Lake Ward 4.
Winn said he is excited for the opportunity to serve the town.
“I am exited about working with the town’s current staff and volunteers who are smart, willing and eager people,” Winn said.
“I think the job of the council is to steer the ship, and I am looking forward to being a part of that team,” Winn said.
Winn thanked his wife, Lena, for her support and his campaign manager, Aaron Wilcoxson.
Randy Swanson, who ran on the Republican ticket unopposed for the Ward 5 seat, said he looks forward to working with the newly elected council if he is re-elected in November.
Ron Shavers, who ran on the Democrat ticket unopposed for the Ward 5 seat, said there is still work to be done to prepare for the November election.
