By Staff Report-

The American Association of University Women met at the home of Becky Lambert Sept.20. A special brunch was provided by co-hostesses Ruth Jones, Judy Becker, LuAnn Christoffel, Doris Cook, Marsha Cook and Jane Wear.
President Barb Johnson welcomed members and guests  and called the meeting to order. Wear, the vice president of programs, introduced speaker Tammy Stackhouse, owner of Magical Meadows, who gave an informative and heart-warming program. Magical Meadows offers therapeutic horseback riding, recreation and education to children and adults who have special needs. The group also learned that Magical Meadows was founded in 2007 with one rider, a horse named Magic and a vision to help those with different abilities. Through the support of many in the community, the dream has become a reality.
Other activities that are offered include walking the beautiful trails, enjoying the different animals, relaxing and sitting on the benches and enjoying the serenity. Overnight horse boarding is available for travelers and one can also take their horses to the riding center.
Stackhouse told them that Magical Meadows is a not-for-profit organization, and they would love to have more volunteers and financial assistance to “Keep The Barn Doors Open,” she said. A special campaign has begun which hopes to raise $30,000 by Dec. 31, 2014. It will allow them to pay down the initial facilities debt and to obtain needed resources for continued growth in services. They are currently servicing a limited number of potential clients due to a lack of resources.
She distributed brochures about Magical Meadows and informed the group that more volunteers, as well as contributions, will help make more dreams come true and many smiles on the faces of children and adults of Kosciusko County with special needs.

Rappe sent for AAUW condolences and a donation to a scholarship fund in Pfeiffer’s honor. Rappe also shared a special thank you note received from Dr. Pfeiffer's family.
