5K Saturday to Benefit Veterans

Reynolds was a member of the Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy graduating class of 2014. For his KYLA project, he decided to have a 5K Run/Walk, with proceeds benefitting Grace College’s Veterans Affairs and USA Cares.
Same-day registration for the Perspective 5K is 8 to 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Winona Lake Park, with the race starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $25 per person, or $50 for a family regardless of size.
“This project is dedicated to raising money for military families in the State of Indiana and in our community,” Reynolds said. “Part of the money will go to benefit Grace’s Veterans Affairs program. It’s a great program. The other portion will go to USA Cares, which is a national organization that focuses on helping military families in financial need.”
He explained the reason for doing this race is because his grandfather served in the Navy 25 years before retiring, and his older brother is in the Indiana University Army ROTC program.
“So the military has had lots of impact on my life, so I want to help military families in need because they help and do so much for us,” Reynolds said.
He encourages any person of any age and athletic level to participate.
“I just want people to get out and support the military. A lot of people benefit from the military,” he said.
It starts in Winona Lake Park and is the same 5K route most commonly used for runs in the town, he said.
“It’s been encouraging to see people from other states take an interest in this race. I’ve received registration from other states,” Reynolds said.
Trophies for first-place overall male and female will be awarded.
“Since this is my KYLA project and I’m new at this, it gives me a lot more respect for anyone who puts on a 5K. It’s been a great learning experience. I enjoyed working with the members of the community and it’s been great to see the generosity of the community and the support for this event,” Reynolds stated.
He gave a “big thanks” to sponsors K21 Foundation, Sym Financial, Rabb Water, Kosciusko Runners Association, Owen’s, Bartel Printing, Allegra Printing, H&R Block of Syracuse and PayPro Media.
