There are several national groups who have urged us to join them in “40 Days of Prayer for the USA” from Sept. 28 until election day on Nov. 6.

I have heard that in a national poll approximately 86 percent of Americans would like God put back into our country. We are facing a great many difficulties in this country including unrestrained federal government spending a stagnated economy resulting in widespread unemployment, and a very divided nation to name a just few. Whether we are republican, democrat, liberal or conservative, I think we all would like to see our country back in a healthy condition where we can once again reach out in Christian love to those who truly need help.

Only a strong country can do that.

The prayer that is most often suggested is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 in which God says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal the land.” Even though this was directed to the Jewish people in King Soloman’s day I feel that it would still apply to Christians today since we are called by Jesus’ name.

I love this country.

I would humbly ask that many people join me in praying for this country for the last 40 days and beyond. In addition to the above, we can pray that God, in his providence, place people in leadership positions that he alone knows will be best for our country. Using the letters USA, we would also pray that God unite us, strengthen us, and appoint and anoint our next president.
