With one off-site parade under their belts, the Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair parade committee plans to start this year's parade in Winona Lake, too.

"Last year we had 131 units and all 14 county fire departments participated," said Frank Rhoades, parade coordinator. "We hope to have that many entries and more this year."

This is the second year the parade will start in Winona Lake at Rodeheaver Auditorium, a departure from beginning and ending the parade on the fairgrounds.

Units will proceed down Park Avenue past the first of two review stands, turn west on Winona Avenue and enter the fairgrounds off Smith Street.

Rhoades acknowledges there were a few glitches in last year's parade - long empty stretches in the parade as units paused before the review stand.

The first review stand and judges will be posted in front of the Boathouse Restaurant. A second review stand will be at the grandstand area. Biographical information about each unit will be short and sweet.

"I can't thank the town of Winona Lake enough for their support last year," Rhoades said.

The theme for the parade is "A Salute To Freedom" and it begins at 4 p.m. June 30. Parade check-in and lineup starts at 3 p.m. south of Rodeheaver Auditorium.

Awards will be presented at the grandstand after the parade.

Categories are: 4-H, antique vehicle, float, equestrian, commercial, best of theme, club and walking unit.

Entry deadline is June 28 and entries may be turned in at the fair office or mailed to: Parade Registration, P.O Box 1093, Warsaw, IN 46580. The fax number is 269-9691.

For more information, call the fair office, 269-1823, or Frank Rhoades, 594-2685. Entry forms are also available at kcfair.kconline.com on the Web. Select the parade option. [[In-content Ad]]
