LEESBURG - An afternoon shooting at a home on Armstrong Road, Leesburg, Thursday left two people dead and one injured.

Dead are Adam B. Jarrett, 30, of 4690 E. Armstrong Road, Leesburg, and Penny Savage, 44, of 802 S. Walnut St., North Webster. Savage was the mother of Jarrett's girlfriend, Erin E. Siefert, 24, also of 812 S. Walnut St., who was injured in the shooting.

Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. and North Webster Police Dept. responded at 3:49 p.m. to a call of a shooting at Jarrett's residence.

What started as a verbal altercation between Jarrett and Siefert ended in an apparent murder-suicide at the Armstrong Road residence.

Jarrett and Siefert were not married but have a son, Jonah, who turns 2 years old in January. Siefert did not live permanently with Jarrett, but moved back and forth between the Armstrong Road residence and her North Webster address.

According to police, at one point during a heated argument, Jarrett called Siefert's mother, Savage, and told her to come get her daughter out of his house. It's unknown what time she arrived, but Savage was there long enough to get Jonah out of the house into her car.

Jarrett had exited the house at this point and went to his garage to obtain a 20-gauge shotgun loaded with deer slug. As the two women were standing outside, Jarrett pointed the gun and fired, grazing Siefert in the stomach. Siefert attempted to flee back into the residence so that her mother would not become a victim, but got into a physical altercation with Jarrett, who was attempting to point the shotgun at her again. Siefert managed to escape back into the house.

Jarrett then fired the shotgun into the back of Savage, who was standing beside a vehicle in the driveway. Siefert ran from the house to her mother and witnessed Jarrett turn the gun on himself, shooting himself in the chest.

Savage was dead at the scene and Jarrett died from his wounds a short time later. Siefert was treated at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

The Kosciusko County Coroner and Sheriff's Department are still investigating the incident at this time. Autopsies for both are planned for later this week at the St. Joe Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Siefert, who is a 2005 Wawasee High School graduate according to her Facebook page, is currently staying with friends.

Jarrett, according to his Facebook page, is a 1998 Wawasee High School graduate.[[In-content Ad]]
