NORTH WEBSTER - A Syracuse man is in jail following a Wednesday morning pursuit that ended with a county squad car being damaged.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Det./Sgts. Todd Sautter and Don McCune received information about a possible suspect involved in the theft of a vehicle and subsequent chase with a KCSD deputy.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. today, North Webster Deputy Marshall Dave May observed the suspect, Matthew Gene Wagoner, 22, Syracuse, in Wagoner's vehicle.

May pulled Wagoner over and arrested him without incident. Wagoner was booked into Kosciusko County Jail and charged with fleeing law enforcement and felony theft. Wagoner's bond was set at $10,000.

Sometime after 4 a.m. Wednesday, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputy Billy Fields attempted to pull over a 1998 silver Dodge Durango, allegedly stolen by Wagoner, at the intersection of Ind. 13 and CR 350N after the vehicle allegedly committed numerous traffic violations.

Wagoner allegedly refused to stop the vehicle and traveled eastbound along CR 350N before turning north onto CR 925E.

Police stated the vehicle then stopped in the roadway, went into reverse and began ramming Fields' squad car, pushing it approximately 15 feet. Wagoner then allegedly fled on foot.[[In-content Ad]]
