He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Hernshaw, W.Va., to William and Beulah Tucker Spurlock. On Oct. 10, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he married Elizabeth C. “Betty” Halstedt. She survives.
He was an office machine repairman. He had also worked at Victor Technologies and as a warehouse manager in Reno, Nev.
He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Warsaw. He had been active in the youth little league and pony league of Warsaw. He went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., on Oct. 1, 2014.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Spurlock, Mentone; two daughters, Kris (husband Chuck) Pletcher, Etna Green, and Robin (husband Jon) Briggs, Mentone; two sons, William (wife Rosemary) Spurlock, Warsaw, and Vernon “Mike” Spurlock Jr., San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Patsy (husband Ernest) Duncan. Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and two sisters, June Schwin and Helen Arthur.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 115 Parkridge Drive, Warsaw, with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, Mentone.
