After a strong start to the game, the Lancers (8-6) were unable to keep pace with Indiana Tech on the road in a 93-82 loss.
The Warriors (9-4) buried 15 triples and also outrebounded Grace by 11. Despite an off shooting night for Grace, the Lancers were within five points of Indiana Tech with five minutes to play.
Unfortunately for Grace, the Lancers misfired on five of their final seven field goals to spoil any chance of a late comeback.
Grace began the game with strong ball movement, producing several open shots. The Lancers jumped out to a 9-4 lead.
Erik Bowen was a central figure in Grace’s start, scoring seven straight points.
The Warriors made sure Grace’s lead was short-lived. Indiana Tech employed a long-range assault, hitting four 3-pointers in a span of 2:30 to go on a 12-0 run. By the end of the run, the Warriors had turned a five-point deficit into a seven-point lead.
Indiana Tech scored at the buzzer of the first half to hold a 48-39 advantage at halftime. Grace scored two-thirds of its points in the paint before halftime.
In the second half, the Warriors’ cushion hovered around 10 points. Indiana Tech still led 74-63 with 6:24 on the clock.
Jaret Sons helped Grace show signs of life by connecting on a trio of 3-pointers, and Stephen Halstead hit another trey to start a rally. After Sons’ third trey, the Lancers trailed by five with just over five minutes to play.
Indiana Tech answered with two quick jumpers, including a 3-pointer, to balloon its lead back to double figures.
Bowen led Grace with 17 points and nine boards, while Logan Godfrey added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Halstead and Tre Olive scored 13 points each in the loss, while Sons finished with 11.
Miles Robinson led Indiana Tech with 24 points and eight boards, while Tanner Watkins and CJ Bussey finished with 24 and 18 points, respectively.
Grace will fight its current five-game losing streak on a road trip next week. Grace travels to play at West Virginia Tech and at NCAA Div. I Radford.
