KYLA Project Benefits Kosciusko Cancer Care Fund

When she was 12, her grandmother, Donna Kern, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Over the next four years, her awareness of individuals and families living with and battling cancer increased. In one way or another, Kuhn realized how cancer had touched the lives of family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. And while everyone’s diagnosis and journey was a little different, they were all fighting against the same disease.
Her KYLA project, “Many Teams, One Fight,” was to raise money for the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County, to help relieve the financial burdens that go along with a cancer diagnosis.
With the cooperation of the Wawasee Athletic Department, coaches, teammates and cheerleaders, all funds that were raised at the West Noble-Wawasee girls basketball game were donated to the CCF, along with money that Kuhn raised through corporate and individual sponsors.
A total of over $2,100 will be donated in the name of Nancy Nelson, a long-time supporter and volunteer to the Lady Warrior Basketball Program. This year, Nelson celebrates 25 years as a breast cancer survivor.
The Cancer Care Fund provides financial support to cancer patients and families for basic needs like mortgage and rent payments, food, utilities, prescriptions, car payments and gas cards. Administered through the K21 Health Foundation, 100 percent of all net funds raised are given back to residents of Kosciusko County.
