On Oct. 19, a contractor reported his construction trailer with all his power tools was stolen to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
While looking in the theft of a lawnmower and Polaris Ranger, reported by a landlord, police found a can of paint with the contractor’s name on it in a home. The landlord told police he found the paint after cleaning the garage after his tenants moved out.
KCSD Deputy Brandon Hepler traced the stolen construction trailer to people renting a house from the landlord, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office. The landlord told Hepler that an unknown subject entered his barn and stole a lawn mower and a Polaris Ranger with a total value of $10,000.
The landlord said one his tenants was moving out and saw three men moving items from the garage. After they moved out, he found a can paint with the contractor’s name on it who had reported his construction trailer and tools stolen Oct. 19.
The investigation led police to McManis, who allegedly agreed to purchase some of the stolen items. McManis gave them a Harley Davidson motorcycle in exchange for items, the affidavit states.
Police allege McManis helped the tenants move the items to his home in Bremen. The construction trailer was found at an auto dealer, where it was sold for $1,000.
McManis was booked into Kosciusko County Jail, Monday and his bond was set at $5,250.
Three more warrants have been issued for the other people believed to be involved in the theft. No other arrests have been made as of press time today.
