Wawasee Blanks Whitko

SYRACUSE – Winning four matches in straight sets, and one by forfeit, Wawasee blanked visiting Whitko 5-0 in a non-conference boys tennis match Tuesday.
Dylan Staley needed just 13 games, one over the minimum, to beat Bailey Platt at No. 1 singles. Nate Haines beat Cory Hersha 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Tim Conley and Evan Krueger downed Micah Cokl and Austin Hollowell by identical scores of 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Graham Perek and Mason Gray won at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, over Luke Spurlin and Nathan Smith. The Wildcats forfeited at No. 3 singles.
Wawasee  (5-1) will travel to Concord Thursday for a Northern Lakes Conference match, while Whitko will travel to Bourbon for a non-conference match with Triton on Thursday.

Lady Warriors Drop Two In NLC
NAPPANEE – Seniors Madison Beaman and Aubrey Schmeltz led Wawasee with scores of 41 and 45, respectively, in Wawasee’s two losses against Northridge and host NorthWood in  a Northern Lakes Conference girls golf match at McCormick Creek Golf Course Tuesday.
NorthWood claimed two wins with a team score of 176, 14 shots better than Northridge’s 190 and 25 shots clear of Wawasee’s 201.
Jadison Rostochak had a 55 for Wawasee, with Lesley Tauyagua shooting a 60 and Zoe White a 65.
“At first, I thought we didn’t play too well,” said Lady Warrior head coach Steve Coverstone. “But really, it’s about what we have been shooting. We just played a couple of good teams tonight. We needed to play better tonight, and we did not.
“Hopefully, we can play better in the NLC tournament.”
Wawasee (9-6, 4-3 NLC) takes on Culver Academies at Mystic Hills Golf Club today.
