SYRACUSE – Donald E. “Gene” Ringler, 87, Syracuse, passed away at 1:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2016, at Warsaw Meadows.
He was born June 12, 1929, in Syracuse, to Donald Edward and Alta Blanche Kolberg Ringler.
He attended Syracuse High School and was a United States Army veteran. He lived in Syracuse until 1974 and then returned to Syracuse in 2003 from Fort Myers, Fla. He retired as road truck driver for Gateway Transportation Co., La Crosse, Wis., after 30 years.
He was a member of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel, American Legion 223 and Eagles Lodge, all of Syracuse; Moose Lodge, Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.; and was a former member of the VFW Post 1342, Syracuse. He enjoyed fishing, boating, Chicago Cubs and the Harlem Globetrotters.
He was survived by two sons, Dennis Ringler and Douglas (and spouse Cheryl) Ringler, all of Syracuse; a daughter, Deborah (and spouse J.R.) Miller, Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Jones, Milford; and a half sister, Marilyn Rhodes, North Webster He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Christopher Ringler.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Harlan Steffen of the church officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the North Webster Cemetery by Syracuse American Legion Post 223.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
