SYRACUSE – Coming off a third-place finish in its invitational, the Wawasee girls golf team earned a pair of wins at South Shore Golf Club Tuesday. The Lady Warriors’ team score of 188 bested Mishawaka Marian’s 203 and West Noble’s 256.
Senior Aubrey Schmeltz was the medalist, shooting a 4-over par 40. Madison Beaman had a 46, Zoe White a 50, Jadison Rostochak a 52 and Lesley Tayagua a 61.
“This was our best nine (holes) of the year,” Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone said. “Jadison came back nice after a rough day on Saturday, and Zoe was also solid.”
Wawasee will travel to Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester today to take on Manchester in a make-up  match that was rained out Monday.

Wawasee XC Gets 3 Wins
DUNLAP – Wawasee’s boys and girls cross country teams opened their seasons with wins over Bremen, Fairfield and NorthWood at Ox Bow Park Tuesday. The boys beat Bremen 17-44, Fairfield 15-50 and NorthWood 24-33. The Lady Warriors won over Bremen 21-34, Fairfield 19-41 and NorthWood 19-36.
Wawasee’s next meet is the NorthWood Invitational at 10 a.m. Aug. 27.

Wawasee Falls To Westview
TOPEKA – Zeb Glon scored a game-tying goal for Wawasee 15 minutes into the boys soccer match, but it was downhill from there as the Warriors fell  10-1 at 15th-ranked Westview Tuesday night.
Wawasee opens its home schedule with a match against South Bend Riley at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

Lady Vikings Overcome 2-Set Deficit To Defeat Wawasee

SYRACUSE – Tippecanoe Valley opened its girls volleyball season in dramatic fashion, overcoming a two-set deficit to beat Wawasee 23-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-11 at the Hardwood Tepee Tuesday evening.
Senior Abby Betten had 14 digs for Valley, and sophomore Emily Peterson recorded 24 assists. Shayleigh Shriver had eight service aces, with Sophie Bussard and Peterson getting two blocks each.
For Wawasee, Olivia Clouse had nine kills and five blocks. Seaquinn Bright had six kills, Peyton Rookstool added four kills and Liz Hardy was credited with three blocks.
Wawasee won the junior varsity contest in a close, two-set match, 25-24, 25-23.
The Lady Vikings return to the road Thursday, traveling to Ligonier to take on West Noble at 6 p.m. Wawasee will venture to Fairfield for a match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
