Lady Tigers Open Soccer Season With Win Over Carroll

For Warsaw’s varsity girls soccer team, Monday’s outcome was certainly better than the weather.
Opening the season in rainy conditions, the Lady Tigers hosted and defeated the Carroll Lady Chargers 2-0.
The game was scoreless in the first half, and then Warsaw was able to string together a good amount of possession in the second half.
The Lady Tigers scored their first goal in the 54th minute of the 80-minute match when senior Breck Jackson ran up the middle of the field and assisted freshman Brenna Buhrt with her first career goal, which came from about 22 yards out.
In the 62nd minute of action, Jackson scored on a free kick to the back post from 25 yards away.
“What an incredible match by two top teams,” said Warsaw coach Peter Lucht. “Carroll has a great program led by a great coach. Our girls fought hard tonight, showing tenacity in adverse weather conditions, fighting through tough tackles, and battling hard against a great opponent. All of the girls deserve special recognition tonight.”
Lucht noted a great performance by Jackson, who not only had a goal and assist, but also anchored Warsaw’s defensive shutout.
Lucht also recognized senior Julie Frazzetta, who he said “had the game of her career, playing with great energy and enthusiasm, winning tough tackles all evening.”
Junior goalkeeper Chloe Snow made 10 saves in the victory.
Warsaw’s JV team lost 3-0.
The Lady Tigers are in action Thursday when they play at Manchester. The varsity game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
