WINONA LAKE –  Five-year baseball coach Bill Barr has decided to step down from his position at Grace College.

Cam Screeton will serve as the interim baseball coach. A national search for Grace’s next baseball coach will begin immediately.

Barr and his wife Jacki will move to Ohio where the pair will teach. The move also allows the Barrs to be closer to family.

“I have appreciated the chance to lead the baseball program at Grace College the past five years,” Barr said. “This new chapter is a positive step for my family and gets us closer to family in Ohio. I am thankful for the growth that has taken place in the program and wish them great success in the future.”

Barr put his mark on the Lancers’ program, leading Grace to the third-winningest season in program history in 2016 despite battling a myriad of key injuries.

In 2014 the Lancers clinched a spot in the Crossroads League Tournament for the first time in recent memory. Grace earned three players on the All-League Team in the process.

“I appreciate all that Bill Barr has done during his time at Grace to impact the baseball program, campus and community,” said Grace Athletic Director Chad Briscoe. “He has impacted the lives of many young men through baseball and has helped build a much stronger foundation for the program. We wish Bill and his family all the best with their new job opportunities in Ohio.”

“I am grateful for the leadership that Bill [Barr] has had within the baseball program and on our campus,” said Grace VP for Academic and Student Services Jim Swanson. “He has worked hard to improve baseball at Grace over the past five years.
