Grant Salyer, 100, Silver Lake,  passed away at 2:06 p.m. Aug. 12, 2016, in Warsaw’s Mason Healthcare Unit where he had been a patient for only a few short months.
He was born July 28, 1916, in Oil Spring, Ky., to John and Dora Adams Salyer. On Oct. 16, 1937, in Knox, he and Flossie M. Allen joined in holy matrimony. They were married 74 years until her passing Nov. 2, 2011.
The family moved to Knox in 1929. Grant and Flossie moved to Kosciusko County a few years after they married, where they lived the remainder of their years.
He was a general foreman for Nickle Plate Railroad/Norfolk and Western Railroad. He retired in 1976 as a general foreman after 40 years of service to the company.
He was a faithful member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake, for 63 years where he served as a deacon and a trustee. Grant and Flossie were inseparable. You wouldn’t leave their home without having a drink of soda or a piece of candy. After his retirement, Grant and Flossie enjoyed buying and selling horses as a hobby. Before they would sell a horse to a young person he made sure they rode the horse with their mom and dad present to be sure the horse and rider were a good fit.

(and spouse Chuck) Lisenbee, all of Warsaw; Steve Allen, San Diego, Calif.; Bill (and spouse Becky) Allen, Argos; Jenny and John Allen, both of Monticello; Benita (and spouse William) Bibler, Winona Lake; Blake Neeley, Indiana; 21 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, James (and spouse Lillian) Salyer, North Liberty.
