Tandy Quits County Council
By -
Tandy did not attend Thursday night’s County Council meeting, but Council President Bob Sanders announced Tandy’s resignation in his absence.
Tandy, who Sanders called a mentor, has accepted a job with a firm in San Diego.
Tandy served on the council for 22 years and had the second longest streak of consecutive years on the council, behind only Larry Teghtmeyer, Sanders said.
“I appreciate what Brad was able to do for me. He will be missed,” Sanders said.
A caucus to replace Tandy is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 30 in the old courtroom of the county courthouse.
Eligible members of the caucus are the Republican precinct committeemen of Kosciusko County Council District 3, who have served continously, from 30 days prior to the date of the beginning of the caucus.
Declarations of Candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan, 1458 E. 75N, Warsaw, no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus.
Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of 3 minutes to address the voting caucus.
Ragan announced Tandy’s departure Thursday.
“Brad Tandy has served District 3 and the citizens of Kosciusko County with distinction,” Ragan said. “His contribution to the County Council has been invaluable and will be missed. We thank him for his service and wish Brad and his family the very best.”
In an excerpt from his letter of resignation to Ragan and the county council, Tandy wrote, “I regretfully tender my resignation from Council after 22 years of service. I have thoroughly enjoyed my interaction with each of you, the Commissioners, and the dedicated office holders and staff that serve the citizens of our county each day,” Tandy wrote.
“Over the years I had the opportunity to observe and participate in the growth of our county, the construction of a new justice building and jail, and the enhancement of many services and facilities that make our county a great place to work and live,” he wrote.
“In the early years, I was very proud of our progress in building a collaborative partnership with the cities and towns in our county, and I am pleased to see the ongoing positive interaction between our various governmental bodies,” he wrote.
He said he and his family will continue to be involved in the local community, and that they plan to keep their home in Winona Lake.
He is married to Jennifer Tandy, who serves a president of the Warsaw School Board.
Jennifer Tandy will be transitioning off the school board over the course of this next year, Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert said late this morning.
There is no resignation or end date for her at this point, he said.
“Sometime over this next year she’ll be transitioning off the board. She’s working on a transition plan,” he said.
Hoffert said Jennifer Tandy has about two more years on her current term. When her resignation is final, Hoffert said all that information will be released.
Once she resigns, the school board will take applications and interview perspective candidates before the school board chooses her replacement.
“At this point, there’s no real time line,” Hoffert said.
