She was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Cambridge, Ohio, to Jerry V. and Eva Dunlap Vance. On May 14, 1954, in Hartford City, she married Wendell D. “Brownie” Brown. They were married for nearly 61 years before his passing Jan. 8, 2015.
Although she did not graduate high school, she earned her GED later in life. Her graduation was attended by all of her children – they were very proud of her for this accomplishment as she worked quite hard to achieve it.
She was formerly a nurse’s aide at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, and most recently employed by Cardinal Center.
She was a past member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Claypool, and a 40-year member of Silver Lake Wesleyan Church. She was known for her baking, especially for her pies – butterscotch pies, coconut cream pies and any variety of fruit pie.
She loved her children, grandchildren and all of their spouses. She expressed her love for them often.
Surviving are four sons: Michael (and spouse Jann) Brown, Union, Ohio; Keith (and spouse Sheri) Brown, Claypool; Kevin (and spouse Candi) Brown, Fort Wayne; Henry (and spouse Lyndah) Brown, Columbia City; a daughter, Brenda (and spouse Glenn) McClendon, Converse, Texas; seven grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Vance, Muncie; a sister, Mae “Sis” Dillinger, Muncie; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Eva Vance; a sister, Shirley Goble; and a brother, William Vance.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the funeral service Sunday in Muncie.
