Welcome To Our New Look

August 8, 2016 at 5:41 p.m.

There are some big changes going on here at the Times-Union and we’re pretty excited about it.
First of all, our print redesign was launched this week.
We chose fonts, colors and layouts that we hope will make the newspaper easier to read and more modern in appearance.
Monday, the redesigned timesuniononline.com website will go live with an emphasis on easier reading and navigation.
Live Times-Union Twitter and Facebook feeds are included on the homepage, along with a rotating picture box and photo gallery. You can scroll through the picture box to browse the photos. Clicking on the photo brings up the photo with its related story.
The traditional navigation bar across the top of the site works just as it used to, with dropdown menus in most positions. Subsections on the homepage – news, sports, obituaries, opinion, public occurrences, leisure – are clearly labeled, making it easy to access content.
At the upper right of the homepage you will find a thumbnail of the front page of each day’s edition. Clicking on that thumbnail will take you directly to the E-edition – every page of the newspaper in a searchable, downloadable PDF.
Clicking on the E-edition link below the thumbnail will display the last five front pages. Clicking on any of them will take you to that day’s edition.
Also on the homepage, readers can browse advertising circulars from their favorite stores
Monday also marks the launch of the Times-Union mobile app. You can download it for free for your iPhone or Android device. Once the app is running on your phone, you will be notified each time we upload a story to the website. (You can adjust how the app notifies you in your settings. The default is sounds and banners.)
Touching the story in the app will take you to the full story on the website.
These upgrades were undertaken to better communicate with our readers.
The upgrades also show a high level of investment in the community by our owners.
On April 1, Reub Williams and Sons Inc. became High-Key Enterprises LLC.
Chandler Williams and Erin Williams, of Warsaw,  became the new owners, keeping the Times-Union in the Williams family, where it has been since 1854.
While the methods of communication have greatly evolved with technology, the mission remains the same.
Each day, on page 4A, that message is clearly stated. I think it bears repeating here:
“You Shall Know The Truth, And The Truth Shall Make You Free’
• To publish and disseminate the news of the day accurately, without bias, neither with favor nor with fear of recrimination.
• To comment editorially on the issues and events of the day that the editors believe to be of vital importance to the reader.
• To maintain a public forum whereby others may voice their opinions – thus preserving the public’s right of expression.
• To maintain continuous surveillance of the peoples’ government that no other institution is designed to do – simultaneously serving as a conduit by which public office holders may maintain communications with the public they serve.
• To both foster and encourage commerce, and to support all community programs that are designed for progress and betterment of the welfare of community life.
Reub Williams
1910-1987
We believe these ideals are more important today than at any point in history.
Social media has made information much more rapidly available, yet many times much more unreliable.
We strive to report the news accurately and in a timely manner and we only report based on official sources.
For 162 years, the Times-Union has been Kosciusko County’s best source of local news and sports. Under new ownership, and with new and exciting ways to communicate, that tradition and level of service to the community continues today.
We would like to say thank you to all our readers and advertisers. Without them, there would be no Times-Union.
We hope everyone enjoys our upgraded news offerings. As always, if you have comments or suggestions feel free to give me a call at 574-267-3111 ext. 225 or email me at [email protected].
