SYRACUSE – At its meeting Tuesday night, the Wawasee School Board gave final approval to hiring former Lady Warrior head softball coach Cory Schutz as athletic director.
“I am pleased to announce that we have hired a new Wawasee Athletic Director, Cory Schutz,” Wawasee Principal Kim Nguyen said in a statement. “Cory has been the athletic director at Eastern Howard Community Schools for the past two years. Some of you may remember he was a business teacher and coach here at Wawasee for 16 years. We are excited and happy to welcome Cory back into the Wawasee family.”
Schutz was the Lady Warrior head softball coach for 12 seasons. He  also served as an assistant coach in baseball, girls basketball, football and volleyball at different stages of his first tenure at Wawasee. Schutz succeeds Steve Wiktorowski, who resigned earlier this summer due to health concerns.
Among his tasks early on will be finding a new head softball coach. Jared Knipper stepped aside at the end of the season last spring to concentrate on teaching and spend more time with his family.
Wawasee enters the 2016-17 school year with new head coaches in volleyball, boys and girls basketball and softball.
