It's Time To Start Thinking About 2016 FMSC Project

I love Warsaw, Winona Lake and Kosciusko County, and there are a lot of reasons why we all love it here, and they are all valid.
It’s beautiful. There’s plenty of lakes, trees, rivers and outdoor activities.
There’s strong school systems. Our schools are really good, our teachers are really good, and our facilities have been the focus of attention lately and that’s good.
And the people of Kosciusko County are generous people. When people need help you have consistently shown that you will rise up to whatever level is required to meet the need.
And that time is here again.
For the third year, the local organizing committee for Feed My Starving Children is making plans to host the Warsaw Mobilepack. Once again it will be at the Gordon Rec Center on the campus of Grace College, and it will be Oct. 5-8.
Each of the first two years, we have packed over a million meals for children around the world who otherwise would have nothing. When I say “nothing” that means they would die without our help.
That may sound melodramatic (I can be that way sometimes – hazard of the job I guess), but if you have been part of FMSC in the past here or somewhere else you know I’m right.
But think about this: in a season when hate and killing and belittling is an every-hour occurrence, you have a real opportunity to effect real change in people who cannot change their circumstances on their own.
The local Mobilepack means that Republican and Democrats will stand side-by-side and put scoops of four essential nutrients in a bag, seal it, box it with other bags and then send those boxes to places in Central America and Africa.
What else can do that?
Valley kids and Warsaw kids have helped pack, and I know that Wawasee students have been working on their administrators to let them come during the school day and help too.
The orthopedic companies come. They’re rivals in the marketplace, but one united team of people when it comes to helping feed the starving children of the world.
Old people and young people stand shoulder-to-shoulder with scoops in hand or peeling labels to put on bags of food. My now-6-year-old helped label bags last year, and she sat in between two older ladies who helped show her how it was done.
Rich and poor, young and old, wise and willing. All with one purpose … to help.
It’s really a unique thing in how it unites us.
It starts with the purchase of the raw food material. That happens when people like you and me take a good hard look at what we can give for such a worthy cause, and then we give it. 22-cents buys one meal for a hungry child – that’s less than a quarter!
Right now, that’s what we need most. We need you to see what you can give and then go to www.warsawmobilepack.com and donate. Then we need you to talk to your boss, and ask them what they can do to help buy meals for this year’s Mobilepack. It could be as simple as matching what donations their employees make, or maybe they’d like to be more involved.
Your Warsaw Mobilepack has had a goal of a million meals for each of the first two years, and we have seen that goal achieved. But if you give more, we can set the goal higher and we have no doubt that we will have volunteers eager to pack.
But it starts with money, and it starts with you.
Lives have been changed through Feed My Starving Children in Kosciusko County. Lives abroad by sending them food … lives here because people pack and realize how much good they did in such a short time.
Time will go quickly, so don’t wait. Get involved.
Help make a change, and be changed yourself at the same time.
