Syracuse Chase Ends In Several Charges Filed

Shane Ashley Holloway, 45, of 306 W. Valleyview Drive, Syracuse, was arrested at 2:58 p.m. Sunday and charged with resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony; criminal recklessness, a class B misdemeanor; and four counts of criminal mischief, a class B?misdemeanor. He is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,250 bond.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, on Saturday a Syracuse Police Department officer responded to a white Cadillac driving slowly around Syracuse and stopping in front of houses on Valleyview Drive.
The officer located the Cadillac backing out of a home at 306 W. Valleyview Drive and activated his emergency lights, but the vehicle continued driving. Officers followed the vehicle two times around before it finally stopped. Officers identified Shane Holloway as the driver. Holloway was allegedly holding a prescription bottle in his hand.
Holloway’s mother arrived and attempted to speak with him, but he would not respond. She told police he had been acting strange for the past two hours and was mentally ill. Holloway then drove off, traveling northbound, as officers chased him with sirens.
Officers pursued Holloway as he drove approximately 10 to 30 mph. An officer creeped into an upcoming intersection ahead of Holloway with his emergency lights and sirens on in an attempt to stop the Cadillac. Holloway accelerated and intentionally struck the front of the officer’s vehicle, causing damage to the left front hood.
In the collision, officers were able to box Holloway’s car in. Holloway was able to escape and struck the side of a different officer’s patrol vehicle causing damage. Holloway then drove through multiple yards and struck the left front bumper and wheel of a third officer’s patrol car. Holloway drove off using both lanes of the roadway and driving into oncoming traffic.
Holloway slowed to a stop and was approached from behind by a Milford Police Department officer. Holloway put the car in reverse and backed into the officer’s car, causing damage. Syracuse police then approached Holloway’s vehicle and was able to shut it off and arrested Holloway.
