MENTONE – James Everett Goshert, 95, a retired farmer of Mentone, finished his earthly work and died peacefully at 7:25 a.m. July 31, 2016, at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, where he had resided for 12 days.
He was born Feb. 28, 1921, near Atwood, to Everett and Alice Carles Goshert. On March 17, 1946, in Mentone, he married Iola Tucker, who survives in Mentone. They were able to celebrate 70 years together.
He graduated in 1939 from Atwood High School, and from Manchester College in 1943. He served his country for three years during World War II in the Army Air Force.
They farmed near Atwood for five years, and then moved to a farm near Mentone. While living in Atwood, he was the superintendent of the EUB Church in which his mother had taught Sunday School for many years. He had served as vice president of the Kosciusko Farm Bureau Inc. and had belonged to Good Sams Camping Group. He enjoyed reading his Bible and going to the Lord in prayer. His family was his heartbeat.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Goshert, Fort Wayne, and Faith Goshert, Mentone; two sons, Kerry (and spouse Kimber) Goshert, Mentone, and Jerry (and spouse Reba) Goshert, New Paris; and three granddaughters: Brooklyn, Carissa and Danae Goshert, all of New Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kay Arlene; a son, Lyle Lee and a brother, Ronald Goshert.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with the Rev. Glen Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Warsaw American Legion and VFW.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
