MENTONE – Debra L. Spencer, 72, of Mentone, passed on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Dupont Hospital of Fort Wayne.
Deb was born on Jan. 7, 1953, in Bad Axe, Mich., to David L. and Doris E. Snider Cooper. She was a 1971 graduate of Mentone High School and furthered her education at Ball State University. After attaining her bachelor’s degree in education, she taught elementary school in Donna, Texas, and Alachua, Fla. She was a big proponent of Right to Life, and also was involved with politics, supporting former Republican Indiana State Representative Curt Nisly.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanna and husband Colin Wilkins, of Fort Wayne; sons, David and wife Carlee Spencer, of Lakeville; and Dustin Spencer, of Warsaw; grandchildren: Lathen, Landen, Liam, Logan, Aspen, Ivee, Peyton, Connor, Allison and Ramsey; a sister, Denise and husband Raymond Driver, of Plymouth; and a brother, Daniel and wife Katherine Arbuckle, of St. Louis, Mo.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents and infant grandsons, Nathan and Noah Wilkins.
The funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with brother-in-law Raymond Driver officiating. The interment will take place following the service in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone. Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
