DNA Confirms Victim Of Christmas Eve Crash

NORTH WEBSTER — Results of DNA tests confirmed Troy E. Bontrager, 57, North Camelot Drive, Milford, died in a single-vehicle crash on Dec. 24 in North Webster.
According to a completed crash report by the North Webster Police Department, the crash was discovered at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 24 at 304 N. Hickory St. West, North Webster.
The responding officer found a black Ford Fusion in the ditch with the front portion of the vehicle partially in the creek. According to the report, it appeared Bontrager drove south on North Hickory Street West and failed to make the 90-degree turn to the east. His vehicle went straight and left the road.
Kosciusko County FACT was contacted and performed the investigation.
An official release of the crash information was delayed due to DNA testing needed to confirm the identity of Bontrager, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The report states the exact time of the accident is unknown as the vehicle was located in a ditch in a wooded area and is believed to have been there for an unknown amount of time prior to emergency personnel being notified.
Damage was estimated at up to $25,000.
