Martha Lee Neff Ault passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana, at the age of 97.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1927, in Warsaw to Lucile Valentine Neff and Royal Neff of Claypool. She attended Claypool High School, graduating in 1945, and was a cradle Methodist member in Claypool her entire life. She worked briefly in Warsaw, supporting the war effort to make money to attend the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, graduating in 1948.
Martha Lee’s 60-year career as a registered nurse was spent at Murphy Medical Center, Miller’s Merry Manor, Kosciusko Medical Clinic and at the end of her career at The Pillbox supporting women in treatment for and recovery from cancer. She retired at the age of 80.
She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Ault, livestock dealer, of Claypool, on Nov. 7, 1948. They were married for over 71 years and lived in and around Claypool their entire lives. Martha was an active member of the Claypool Methodist Women’s Society for many years, loved music and participated with her family in many vocal and piano concerts. She was the 1985 recipient of the Kosciusko County Extension Homemakers Jane Award for outstanding leadership. She was the original organizer of Mobile Meals for Claypool and attended missions in Haiti during the “Papa Doc” regime in the late 1960s. Martha and her husband enjoyed vacationing in their homes in Kissimmee and Haines City, Fla., for many years and in their later years toured the U.S. in their RV with Newmar friends and family. An avid Cubs fan, she and her husband attended many sporting and concert events of her children and grandchildren. For the past ten+ years she enjoyed meeting with her “Donut Lady” friends every Wednesday morning in Warsaw.
Martha is survived by three children: Doug Ault (Janet), of Warsaw; Jacque Ault Negus (Jon), of Palatine, Ill.; and Greg Ault (Cindy), of Columbia, Md.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Francis Neff Shively; and brother, Robert Neff.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Jan. 6 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at noon with Pastor Glenn Hall and Joel Negus officiating. A graveside service will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 1048 S. 325 W., Pierceton, Indiana 46562; or to Claypool United Methodist Church, 302 E. Section St., Claypool, IN 46510.
