Pierceton Redevelopment Commission Approves Design Concept For Brower Park Pavilion

PIERCETON — The Pierceton Redevelopment Commission approved a design concept for a new pavilion at Brower Park during a meeting on Monday.
The concept, created by Fleis & Vandenbrink, includes a picnic pavilion, two bathrooms and a custodial room. Redevelopment Commission members said the current pavilion is roughly half the size of what the proposed pavilion is, with the new pavilion being 60 feet by 20 feet in total.
Along with the concept, engineers' fees were approved. The Redevelopment Commission also agreed to collaborate with Fleis & Vandenbrink on looking at more specific details for the pavilion, including a site visit.
Redevelopment Commission members discussed maintenance and upkeep of the pavilion, which would fall on town employees. Town Superintendent Casey Boggs said he was not concerned about the town handling that responsibility.
"My only concern would be outside of normal working hours and how that's handled," said Boggs. "During normal hours, I'm not too concerned though."
The commission agreed to have the pavilion's bathrooms closed during overnight hours, since the town's parks have a curfew.
Additional parking spaces are also being considered near the pavilion.
"Even just a couple more spaces would help for families who may rent it out, or someone who's handicapped and needs a place to park, or a way for people to unload food and materials," said Redevelopment Commission Member Glenn Hall.
Commission members noted the proposed pavilion's appearance ties in well to The Old Train Depot, which is southeast of the pavilion.
