South Whitley Has New Deputy Marshal

SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's South Whitley Town Council meeting, officer David Limore was sworn in as deputy marshal by Town Marshal Mikel Vandevender.
Council approved both Limore's contract and a request for an additional part-time officer.
In old business, council approved a $356,397 contract with Brooks Construction for utility work for the ongoing Community Crossings Matching Grant-funded projects downtown. South Whitley is continuing to apply for additional CCMG funding when available for future projects.
In new business, council approved the 2025 contract with the Whitley County Humane Society not to exceed $3,000, which ensures the society will take in the town's stray animals.
Council also approved a $21,000 contract with Baker Tilly for a utility rate study.
Tony Starkey, of Fox Products Corp., asked to discuss the town's utility rates, and the corporation's use of those utilities, at a separate meeting with the council, scheduled for Feb. 19. Starkey said Fox Products has paid $1.74 million to the town in utility bills in the past 12 years.
Council President Brock Waterson reminded everyone of the Lady Wildcats' regional championship game Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. against Bremen.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25.
