BOURBON – Superintendent Jeremy Riffle informed the Triton School Board Monday of one event and one student project going on in the school corporation.
The Triton Student Life Foundation will present Comedy For A Cause starring David Dean on April 5.
The event will open with the Triton Elementary Shining Stars and a preview of “The Addams Family,” which is a play students are working on, said Riffle.
Comedy For A Cause will take place instead of the Triton Gala this year and all proceeds from the event will go to the Triton Student Life Foundation to benefit students and Triton schools.
Tickets are $50 in advance of the event and cane be purchased at the Bourbon town clerk’s office and the Triton administration building. Tickets will be $60 at the door.
The board also learned Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA) members Sierra Hawley, Clara Doll and Macy Carson are doing Pop Up For a Purpose, Riffle said.
Pop Up For a Purpose is a KYLA white paper project where Hawley, Doll and Carson are collecting second-hand clothing and everything donated will be used to set up a pop-up store for clients of Cardinal Services Inc. of Indiana, according to the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
Donations will be accepted through Feb. 17 and collected items will go to Cardinal Services. Items being collected include adult and kids clothing, hygiene items, craft supplies and toys. Hygiene products and undergarments must be in packaging.
There are several drop-off locations around Kosciusko County, as well as Triton Elementary School and Triton Junior/Senior High School.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a quote from Trafera for 294 Chromebooks for $87,318.
• Recognized Connor Stetzel on his third-place finish at regional and his bid to the IHSAA semi-state wrestling meet in East Chicago.
• Learned fifth-graders will start DARE today.
• Learned freshman orientation at the high school is Feb. 19.
• Learned after graduation in June, work will begin on the roof at Triton Elementary School. The entire roof will be removed and replaced with a similar system the high school received a few years back, Riffle said. Instructional areas will be worked on during the summer. The remainder of the roof will be completed in the fall if that much time is needed.
• Approved the retirements of Cynthia Stitcher as a junior-senior high school teacher and Teresa Watkins as a sixth-grade teacher at the end of the school year.
• Approved the hiring of Josh Alicondor and Terrin Meister as seventh-grade girls basketball volunteer coaches, Jason Thompson as the junior high school wrestling supervisor, Rachel Watkins as the junior-senior high school physical education/health teacher, Jason Arvesen as the junior girls wrestling coach and Patric Riewoldt as a substitute teacher.
