Silver Lake Holds Public Hearing For Community Center Grant

SILVER LAKE – Ahead of Wednesday night's regular meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council held a public hearing regarding an Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) grant for the ongoing community center project.
The community center, based on the latest plans completed by architect Jim Hoch of Hoch Associates, is estimated to cost $2.85 million.
Council heard from grant writer Shannon McLeod, of Priority Project Resources LLC, who will complete and submit the OCRA grant application on behalf of the town by April 17. The town is seeking $750,000 from this grant.
During the regular meeting, the council approved two ordinances, one to update the employee handbook and one to update the salary of the chief deputy marshal since the hiring of Kole Williams.
Council also:
• Approved a $5,440 quote for repaving at the fire station from Gaunt and Son Asphalt.
• Approved a $7,050 quote from Lake City Landscaping for new mulch for the town parks.
• Voted to allow Utilities Superintendent Joey McNeal to purchase an equipment trailer from Kerlin.
There was a claims docket of $128,923.31.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. May 14.
