SIDNEY — Sidney Town Council held a budget hearing on Monday.
The council gathered and reviewed budget allocations that they will vote on at an upcoming budget adoption meeting. The goal was to make sure any last minute changes were addressed before the vote.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Parrett announced at the start of the meeting that the council was approved for a 12% budget increase to public safety, in the amount of $10,000. Council President Gavin Parrett commented this will allow the town to save for a larger purchase for police coverage in the future.
Council followed up on budget changes they discussed at an Aug. 22 special meeting. This included increasing phone and internet allocation due to rising bills, and increasing mosquito spray coverage. Council added a line item for maintenance pay. Office spending, election fees and attorney fees decreased.
Council stated the amount projected in August for the general fund was lower than what they actually have, so they allocated the additional funds into “other services.”
The council did not make any other changes to their budget worksheets based on what they discussed at the August meeting.
The amounts discussed for each budget category were: General fund, $67,200; local roads and streets fund, $4,000; motor vehicle highway fund, $8,000; cumulative capital fund, $4,800; and economic development fund, $20,000.
The budget adoption meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Jackson Township Fire Station.
