For The Record

Editor, Times-Union:
So many hard-working Americans just do not have time to watch a lot of news programs or even read real newspapers. Information gathering from social media is simply a way of life today - like it or not. Unfortunately, too much of that information is spread by self-appointed “experts.” As we near the end of the current presidential term of office and begin the process of voting for new leaders, it may be instructive to reflect on the accomplishments of the Biden/Harris administration. The following facts should be noted:
– The DOW has closed above 43,000 for the first time in history.
– The S&P reached an all-time high - up over 65% from 2022.
– Inflation is at its lowest level since 2020.
– The GDP (gross domestic product) is higher than the first three years of the Trump administration.
– Wages are up and rose faster than expected.
– Interest rates are dropping.
– Forbes reports: “Record-breaking Accomplishments on Jobs and Unemployments Under Biden.” The best job growth numbers of any administration in American history. The unemployment figures are the best in decades.
– “The economy is robust ... by many measures, the job market is as healthy as it has ever been.” (New York Times)
– “The American Economy: The Envy of the World.” The American economy has left other rich countries in the dust. (The Economist)
– “The cost of living is going down. The rapid disinflation under Biden is unmatched in modern history.” (Bloomberg.com/graphics)
All of the above pertains just to our economy. Other accomplishments of the Biden/Harris administration include the lowest crime rates overall in many years; the implementation of the ten-year infrastructure plan to modernize our transportation system (roads, bridges, railways, airports), upgrade water systems, etc.; the lowering of drug prices; the successful containment of the covid epidemic; the CHIPS and Science Act; the strongest gun reform in decades; and the most important climate change reform in thirty years. Vice President Harris played an active role in all of these changes and decisions and will build upon and expand these efforts when she becomes president.
Trump says Biden and Harris have destroyed America making it look like some third world country. The above litany of good news would seem to be contrary to that claim.
Stay informed. Vote wisely!
