Jan Burlena Barber

Jan Burlena Barber, 69, of North Manchester and formerly of Akron, passed at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice of Fort Wayne.
Jan was born on Jan. 28, 1955, in Lancaster, to the late Burl and Flossie Heitz Scott. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1973 and went on to attend college in Virginia for two years. On Dec. 15, 1979, she married Dail R. Barber Jr. in Charlottesville, Virginia. He survives her.
Jan dedicated 28 years to Biomet of Warsaw, starting as a secretary and retiring from the International department, where she was involved in travel. She was an active member of the Beaver Dam Community Church, serving on the Pastor Parish Committee. She also assisted her kids with their numerous projects in 4-H.
Jan cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, enjoying sunny days boating and relaxing by the pool and socializing with her girlfriends. She loved traveling with her family across the country and taking day trips. Jan was known for her generosity, non-judgmental nature, and forgiving spirit.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dail Barber, of North Manchester; children: Amanda “Mandy” and husband Dylan Carlson, of Akron; Randy and wife Tammy Barber, of North Manchester; Leslie and husband Bruce Jackson, of Syracuse; grandchildren: Macy, Gavin, Hailey, Layne, Ben, Luke, Elizabeth, Brett, Tara, Brenden and Grant; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Peg and husband Terry Henry, of Warsaw; and Kay Scott, of Noblesville.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, son, Scott Barber (Nov. 18, 2023); a great-granddaughter, Lainey Reinhard.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Beaver Dam Community Church, 9798 W. CR 1000S, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating.
The interment will take place following the service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron.
Memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Beaver Dam Community Church.
Donations can be made in her memory to the Beaver Dam Community Church/Wheels on Fire to assist the community members who are fighting cancer.

Warsaw Girls Fall For The First Time At Homestead
Two of the top five girls basketball teams in the state met in Fort Wayne Tuesday night, with Warsaw traveling to take on Homestead. The home side led for the entirety of the game, coming up with big moment after big moment each time it looked like the Lady Tigers had an answer. The end result: Warsaw suffering its first loss of the season, 67-55.

Along with granting $30,000 of the city’s restricted opioid settlement money to Kosciusko Superior Court I’s new problem-solving court, a Reentry Court, on Tuesday, the Warsaw Common Council determined to form a committee to hear future settlement dollar requests.
