SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council accepted the only submitted bid for 206 and 208 S. State St. from Brian McCarty, pending a purchase agreement to be drawn up by town attorney Greg Hockemeyer.
McCarty's bid outlined his plan to restore and remodel the buildings for retail and residential use. The lower levels would be retail spaces and the upstairs would be apartments.
Council Vice President Brock Waterson said McCarty's wife owns a boutique in Fort Wayne and is interested in potentially opening another location in one of the proposed retail spaces.
Following no public input, council also voted to approve the 2025 budget.
Park Board President Dave Warner presented a check for $1,591 to the town from the pickleball tournament during Fall Festival. There were also several personal donations totaling $240.
Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple asked to change the clerk's office hours to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Jan. 1. This would push back the opening time from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Council approved changing the hours.
Jen Krider spoke to the council regarding Festive Fridays this year. The following events have been scheduled: Walk of Trees, Dec. 5–6; Willie Nelson impersonator, Dec. 7; Vendor Village and Christmas Parade, Dec. 13; and Wishing Tree and Fireworks in the town park, Dec. 20.
There was a claims docket of $157,252.90.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 22.
