Whitko School’s Robin Coffman Receives National Biology Award

SOUTH WHITLEY – Robin Coffman, Whitko Jr./Sr. High School biology teacher, received the 2024 Outstanding New Biology Teacher Achievement Award in Anaheim, Calif., last week.
Coffman is teaching her second year of biology at WJSHS, having previously taught middle school science.
Coffman attended the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) Professional Development Conference where she was recognized for excellence in biology education.
"I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my teaching career,” Coffman said. “My mentors, administrators, family, and friends who have been the foundation of my success and I remain thankful for their unwavering encouragement. I would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Evans and Mr. Hanback for their nomination and recommendation letters, as well as to my first biology teacher — my father, David Butler —whose guidance and support continue to inspire me. I am also profoundly thankful to my husband, Jason Coffman, for his steadfast love and support throughout my educational journey and teaching career.
“Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Whitko Jr./Sr. High School for the opportunity to teach in this wonderful community. It has been a privilege to return and contribute to the education of Whitko's students, and I look forward to continuing to support science education here."
“We’re thrilled that not only Robin Coffman has been recognized for her excellent work with students, but that the award reflects the great education our students receive at Whitko Community Schools,” said Whitko interim Superintendent Dr. Tom Edington.
According to NABT representatives, “Thousands of educators have joined NABT to share experiences and expertise with colleagues from around the globe; keep up with trends and developments in the field; and grow professionally.”
Coffman has been a member of NABT for three years, becoming involved through the recommendation of her father, Southern Wells High School teacher David Butler, who is also an active member in the organization.
