James ‘Steve’ Uhlig

November 17, 2024 at 3:39 p.m.

James “Steve” Uhlig crossed the finish line surrounded by his loved ones and joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at the age of 70.
Steve was born in Plymouth at Parkview Hospital on Aug. 3, 1954, to Raymond Uhlig Sr. and Margaret McCandless Uhlig. He was baptized and confirmed into Christ Jesus at Calvary Lutheran Church.
As a little boy, Steve loved the outdoors and would later join Calvary’s Boy Scout Troop 230, where he excelled in all the outdoor jamborees at Meyers Lake. He also attended a weeklong jamboree to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Steve attended Plymouth schools and graduated with the class of 1972, making cherished lifelong high school friends.
After graduating, Steve’s life then turned towards automobiles, particularly muscle cars and drag racing. He worked as a certified auto technician in Plymouth and Mid-South areas for 30 years until he moved to Warsaw. He then worked at Tippecanoe Golf Course until his health prevented him from working any longer. He enjoyed his retirement with his lifelong friends and enjoyed going to car shows. His pride and joy was his 1968 Hemi Dodge Dart that he drag raced and took to car shows where he met even more friends.
Steve also found joy in family and raised a small garden with lots of ‘maters and peppers. He was a Dale Earnhardt fan and rooted for the Chicago Cubs and Da Bears.
Steve is survived by his faithful feline, Ella; sister and caretaker, Christine (Mel) Simms; brothers, Sonny (Tanya) and Randy Uhlig; special companion, Wanda Clark; stepsister, Diane (Allan) Rudd; stepbrother, Rob (Elaine) Yoder; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved stepmother, Juanita Uhlig; and faithful companion, Jack.
Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with Steve’s care. His family is grieving privately therefore no public services will be held.
