A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly doing damage to a woman’s vehicle during an argument.
Joshua Allen Shepherd, 29, of 2948 W. CR 200S, Warsaw, is charged with criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.
He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:32 p.m. Sunday on a $12,500 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 16 a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a report from a woman about a crime.
Upon arrival to the scene, the deputy met with the woman who said she and Shepherd were arguing and Shepherd became upset and starting cursing at the woman.
Shepherd then allegedly pulled the handle off of a hydraulic jack that was in the driveway. The woman then said Shepherd then hit her vehicle’s windshield with the jack handle, shattering the windshield.
Shepherd then got into his vehicle and drove toward the woman, attempting to hit her. Shepherd then left the area.
Upon looking at the damage on the woman’s vehicle, the deputy noticed the passenger mirror was partially separated from the door and the reflective glass was shattered with pieces of the glass on the ground. The deputy also noticed scuff marks on the top of the mirror housing, as well as the woman’s windshield was shattered in the lower passenger-side corner.
Upon reviewing security footage, the deputy saw Shepherd walk over to the hydraulic jack and pull the handle off. Shepherd then walked toward the woman’s vehicle and hit it multiple times with the jack handle. Shepherd then threw the jack handle toward the residence and walks to his vehicle. As the woman walked into the driveway back toward the residence, Shepherd turns and moves his vehicle in the direction the woman is walking. The woman had to move to avoid being hit by the vehicle. Shepherd then backed out of the driveway and left the area, according to court documents.
The deputy talked with Shepherd. The deputy asked how the damage to the woman’s vehicle happened. Shepherd said the woman’s windshield was all ready cracked by the woman’s sister. Shepherd said he did hit the mirror with a jack handle. The deputy told Shepherd about the camera footage showing Shepherd hitting the windshield. Shepherd then admitted to hitting the windshield, according to court documents.
